Glenn Curtiss and the Curtiss Mansion by Buzz Fleischman
Each one of us is connected to Glenn Hammond Curtiss, either through where we live, our interest in the history of the United States or our connection or interest in the aviation industry. Through him, we are connected to history. Curtiss gave so much to our nation, our state and our community, yet, today, so few people know anything about him. That will change. Soon we’ll have a place to salute our unsung hero… a place for learning, socializing, and celebrating… a gathering place for everyone… the very place Glenn Curtiss called home. It is located in Miami Springs, one of the 3 cities he founded and developed here in South Florida.
Buzz Fleischman is a Public Speaker and Humorist for numerous meetings, conventions and other significant functions. He is a Master of Ceremonies, a Roast-master and you’ll never have a more fun auctioneer’! In the past 25 years Buzz has appeared in many local, national and international television commercials in a variety of roles ranging from spokesperson to comic character actor. His radio commentary, known as ‘The Radio Buzz’ is satire and intelligent humor, which airs on Public Radio here in South Florida on NPR News station WLRN.

George Merrick Boy Scouts by Robert Burr
The George Merrick Boy Scout Troop 7, started in March, 1922 in Coral Gables, is one of the country's oldest continuously operated units. After the hurricane of September 18, 1926, Mr. Merrick build the boys their own rustic log cabin in the middle of the Granada Golf Course. The log cabin was the troop headquarters until the early 1970's when it was destroyed by a fire. The new building was finished in 1976, but the old chimney remains as a historic landmark. The boys built a brick patio where the old cabin once stood.
Our meeting will take place at the Troop 7 Boy Scout House at 1107 South Greenway Drive at 2pm. Along with Robert Burr, current and former Troop members will give a presentation on the history of their group.
